Discussions of the evolution of clutch-size in birds have largely ignored the physical characteristics of nests. In the tropics, the size and structure of nests have evolved under the influence of intense predation by nest-predators. One result of selection for inconspicuousness has been a reduction in nest size, in some cases to an extreme degree.
