Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by fungi that readily colonize crops. After ingestion, these mycotoxins can compromise intestinal health, and once entering the blood stream, even affect the liver and its metabolizing enzymes. It was therefore the aim of the present study to investigate the effect of T-2 toxin, an emerging and potent Fusarium mycotoxin, on the enzymatic activity of cytochrome P4503A (CYP3A) metabolizing enzymes in the liver of pigs.
