BACKGROUND We describe a simple, non-invasive mouthwash sampling method for rapid DNA isolation to detect cytokine gene polymorphisms. In the present paper, interleukin- 1beta(IL-1B) and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RN) gene polymorphisms were studied. METHODS Two mouthwash samples and blood samples were collected from 11 healthy individuals. The second mouthwash sample was stored for 7 days at room temperature. Polymerase chain reaction amplification was used to identify a bi…

Isolation and Characterization of Buccal Cell Dna Obtained from Mouthwash Samples of Healthy, Tobacco Users and Cancer Patients
TLDR
It can be concluded that mouthwash technique for obtaining DNA is a feasible and cost-effective method for large scale epidemiologic studies and tobacco use in any form is injurious to health and might lead to cancer.
IL-1RN gene polymorphism is associated with peri-implantitis.
TLDR
Evidence is provided that IL-1RN gene polymorphism is associated with peri-implantitis and may represent a risk factor for this disease.
Influence of IL-1 gene polymorphism on the periodontal microbiota of HIV-infected Brazilian individuals.
TLDR
The data indicated that the IL-1 gene polymorphism is neither associated withperiodontal destruction nor with high levels of subgingival species, including putative periodontal pathogens in HIV Brazilian individuals on HAART.
Polymorphism of the FcγRIIIa gene and post-treatment apical periodontitis.
CARD15 gene mutations in periodontitis.
TLDR
The results suggest no role for CARD15 3020insC and C2104T mutations in adult periodontitis.
Polymorphisms of the Interleukin-1 Gene Family, Oral Microbial Pathogens, and Smoking in Adult Periodontitis
TLDR
Evidence is provided that polymorphisms in genes of the IL-1 family are associated with severe adult periodontitis in the absence of other risk factors tested in this patient population.
CD14 and TLR4 Gene Polymorphisms in Adult Periodontitis
TLDR
It is concluded that the CD14-260T/T genotype contributes to the susceptibility to severe periodontitis in Dutch Caucasians.
Risicofactoren voor adulte parodontitis: polymorfismen in de interleukine-1 genfamilie
TLDR
Evidence is provided that polymorphisms in genes of the IL-1 family are associated with severe adult periodontitis and may be a risk factor for severeperiodontitis.

Utility of a "swish and spit" technique for the collection of buccal cells for TAP haplotype determination.
TLDR
DNA from buccal cells collected by the swish and spit technique for TAP haplotype assignment is an excellent substitute for DNA obtained from nucleated blood cells, and the technique is useful for large-scale clinical studies that require DNA from subjects geographically distant from the research site.
Significant differences in the interleukin-1beta and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene polymorphisms in a Hungarian population with inflammatory bowel disease.
TLDR
The data support the concept that CD and severe UC have a genetic disequilibrium in the distribution of IL1B and IL1RA gene polymorphisms and together with functional studies will contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis of the chronicity of inflammation in these diseases.
Interleukin-1beta+3953 allele 2: association with disease status in adult periodontitis.
TLDR
The data obtained revealed significant linkage disequilibrium between allele 2 of the IL-1beta+3953 polymorphism and allele 1 of the bi-allelicIL-1alpha-889 polymorphism in both patients and orally healthy controls, providing new insight into the possible role of IL- 1alpha and beta gene polymorphisms in the susceptibility to adult periodontitis.
The interleukin-1 genotype as a severity factor in adult periodontal disease.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that specific genetic markers, that have been associated with increased IL-1 production, are a strong indicator of susceptibility to severe periodontitis in adults.
A TaqI polymorphism in the human interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) gene correlates with IL-1 beta secretion in vitro.
TLDR
No differences in allele or genotype frequencies of this RFLP were observed between randomly selected controls and randomly selected patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), indicating that the TaqI polymorphism gave rise only to quantitative differences in expression levels and probably not to a mutant IL-1 beta.
A rapid non‐invasive method for the detection of the haemochromatosis C282Y mutation
We describe the rapid single‐step detection, by mutagenically separated polymerase chain reaction (MS‐PCR), of the HLE C282Y mutation, for which > 90% of haemochromatosis patients in the U.K. are
Interleukin 10 secretion in relation to human IL-10 locus haplotypes.
TLDR
The ability to secrete interleukin 10 can vary in man according to the genetic composition of the IL-10 locus, and it is shown that the haplotype IL10.R2/IL10.G14 was associated with highestIL-10 secretion overall, whereas the haplotypes containing the allele IL 10.R3/IL11.R were associated with lowest IL- 10 secretion.
Association of interleukin-1β and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist genes with disease severity in MS
TLDR
IL-1RA and IL-1β are disease severity genes rather than disease susceptibility genes, and these gene polymorphisms may define subgroups of patients with a worse prognosis.
Levels of interleukin 1 beta in tissue from sites of active periodontal disease.
TLDR
A constellation of activities suggests a role for IL-1 beta in the pathogenesis of human periodontitis, which also mediates soft tissue destruction through the stimulation of prostaglandin production, and the induction of collagenase and other proteases.
Measurement of interleukin‐1α and ‐1β in gingival crevicular fluid: Implications for the pathogenesis of periodontal disease
TLDR
It is demonstrated that IL-1 is produced and released locally in periodontal disease at concentrations sufficient to mediate tissue inflammation and bone resorption and may serve as a marker ofperiodontal tissue destruction.
