The study of paper in Samaritan manuscripts has not yet been undertaken in any scientific way, and this paper is the first sustained attempt to gather and assess the data. 1 We must acknowledge here, at the outset, the work of Malachi Beit-Arie whose study of paper in Hebrew manuscripts in his monumental Hebrew Codicology2 must remain a model and a guide.
