The metabolic syndrome, which has been defined as a clustering of insulin resistance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia (1–4), has become a major public health issue worldwide. Previous studies have shown that the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes was significantly different between the Uygur and Kazak populations, the two major minorities in Xinjiang (5,6). The current study aims to evaluate and compare the epidemiological and clinical features of the metabolic syndrome in the Uygur and…
The Prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension in Uygur and Kazak Populations
TLDR
The data suggest a significantly different prevalence in hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and type 2 diabetes between the two ethnic groups, and that waist circumference of Kazak ethnics was greater than that of Uygur, even at the same BMI level.
Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Han and Mongolian Rural Population with Hypertension
TLDR
In men, prevalence of metabolic syndrome showed no obvious ethnicity differences; however, in women, prevalence was significantly higher in the Mongolian than in the Han population.
PP.02.03: RISK FACTORS FOR PREHYPERTENSION IN XINJIANG UYGUR POPULATION
TLDR
In Xinjiang Uygurs, BMI and age were the risk factors for prehypertension and DBP was significantly increased with BMI, emphasizing the importance of management of obesity for the control of blood pressure and other cardiovascular complications.
Overweight, high blood pressure and impaired fasting glucose in Uyghur, Han, and Kazakh Chinese children and adolescents
TLDR
The prevalence of HBP and IFG differed significantly among Uyghurs, Hans, and Kazakhs, and the ethnic differences observed in childhood were consistent with those observed in adults from the same region.
Serum FFAs profile analysis of Normal weight and obesity individuals of Han and Uygur nationalities in China
TLDR
In both the Han and Uygur nationalities, the FFAs profiles of NW individuals differed from those of OB individuals, which may be closely related to obesity and related metabolic diseases.
Differences of prevalence of dyslipidemia and risk factors related to LDL-c in the patients with abnormal fasting glucose between Uygur and Han in Xinjiang.
TLDR
It was revealed that risk factors associated with LDL-c were age, total cholesterol and 2 h postprandial blood glucose for the Uighur IFG patients, however, gender and total cholesterol were risk factors for HanIFG patients.
Different lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity, and insulin resistance among Han, Uygur, and Kazak men with normal glucose tolerance in Xinjiang, China
TLDR
Han men had the highest insulin resistance while Kazak men had The Matsuda Index was significantly higher than that of Hans and Uygurs, and Han, Uygur, and KazakMen had different lipid profiles, BMI, and WC.
Comparison Study of Metabolic Syndrome's Differences and Diagnostic Criteria's Applicability among Xingjiang Uighur, Kazak and Han Population
TLDR
Differences and adaptabilities of applications of the diagnostic criteria for MS recommended by Adult Treatment Protocol III, International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) in three groups of populations are compared and IDF criterion was better than other criteria for the three nationalities.
Analysis of Prevalence and Risk Factors of Hypertension Among Uygur Adults in Tushala and Hetian Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
TLDR
The results indicated that high caloric food intake may trigger hyperlipidemia and subsequently elevated blood pressure, with elevated BMI and cholesterol levels being the major risk factors for hypertension.
Plasma Free Fatty Acids Metabolic Profile Among Uyghurs and Kazaks With or Without Type 2 Diabetes Based on GC-MS.
TLDR
Different risk factors and pathogenesis of T2DM between Kazaks and Uyghurs are suggested.

Analysis of metabolic features and food composition related with pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus in populations of Uigurs and Kazaks in Xinjiang
The blood level of triglyceride in Kazaks is lower than that in Uigurs and the level of total cholesterol in Kazaks is kept within normal range although Kazaks′ diet contains high cholesterol and
Prevalence of the metabolic syndrome among US adults: findings from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
TLDR
These results from a representative sample of US adults show that the metabolic syndrome is highly prevalent and the large numbers of US residents with the metabolic Syndrome may have important implications for the health care sector.
Genetic and environmental correlations between obesity and body fat distribution in adult male twins.
TLDR
The genetic findings support the hypothesis that the WHR and SSTR indexes do not assess the same dimensions of fat patterning, and suggest that overall obesity and abdominal adiposity distribution are mediated to some extent by similar genetic influences.

TLDR
A WHO Consultation has taken place in parallel with a report by an American Diabetes Association Expert Committee to re‐examine diagnostic criteria and classification of diabetes mellitus and is hoped that the new classification will allow better classification of individuals and lead to fewer therapeutic misjudgements.
Genetic and environmental influences on body-fat measures among African-American twins.
TLDR
There are both genetic and environmental influences on WC, WHR, and BMI, and independent of BMI, there are genetic andEnvironmental effects on WC and WHR among both genders.
Genetic and environmental influences on waist-to-hip ratio and waist circumference in an older Swedish twin population
TLDR
There are both genetic and environmental influences on WHR and WC, independent of BMI in both males and females, and the differences between the sexes are significantly different.

TLDR
The basic premise for the de®nition is that the metabolic syndrome is a syndrome of mild anomalies which, in combination, increase cardiovascular risk and because the syndrome includes nonmetabolic features, a more appropriate name would be the `insulin resistance syndrome'.
