Summary AgNO 3 therapy has altered several aspects of the care of the burned child. The effective control of bacterial infection, together with a decrease in evaporative water and heat loss from the burn surface, greatly reduce metabolic demands so that severe nutritional problems are seldom encountered. It is clear that daily evaporation of large quantities of body water, if uncontrolled, is one of the major causes of burn hypermetabolism. 5 The considerable energy expenditure in burn children… CONTINUE READING
