L. Vörtsjärv is a eutrophic lake in Central Estonia. The area of the lake is 270 km2, the average depth only 2.8 m. The biological productivity of the lake is rather low. Twelve to fifteen years ago the main fish were ruff and perch (80–90% of catch), while the numbers of valuable fish were small.
