Pregnancy length was calculated from ultrasonic measurement of the fetal biparietal diameter (BPD) in the second trimester and compared with the corresponding length calculated from the last menstrual period (LMP) in 86.5 women with exactly 28‐day cycles and spontaneous onset of labor. The effects of maternal age, parity, smoking and sex of the child on BPD‐based pregnancy length were evaluated in 1998 women with spontaneous onset of labor. The mean pregnancy length was 280.6 days when based on…
Fetal size in the second trimester is associated with the duration of pregnancy, small fetuses having longer pregnancies
Fetal size in the second trimester is a determinant of birth weight and pregnancy duration, small fetuses having lower birth weights and longer pregnancies (up to 13 days compared with large fetuses); this results support a concept of individually assigned pregnancy duration according to growth rates rather than imposing a standard of 280–282 days on all pregnancies.
Accuracy of second trimester fetal head circumference and biparietal diameter for predicting the time of spontaneous birth
Provided that the expected pregnancy duration was 282 days, both HC and BPD predicted spontaneous birth with a mean accuracy of one day, HC being significantly better than BPD.
Predicting Delivery Date by Ultrasound and Last Menstrual Period in Early Gestation
Term prediction with ultrasound: Evaluation of a new dating curve for biparietal diameter measurements
The old ultrasound method leads to a systematic underestimation of fetal age, and the prediction error increases notably when the ultrasound measurements are performed in the early second trimester.
Detection of pregnancy with the determination of foetal indices in Assam hill goat
It was concluded that it was possible to detect pregnancy as well as the gestational age by measuring all the three parameters.
Is fetal growth impaired after in vitro fertilization?
The growth pattern of in vitro fertilization pregnancies does not seem to differ from spontaneously conceived pregnancies to any appreciable extent and there was no correlation between deviation of the individual growth parameters or estimated fetal weight and elevated blood pressure.
Routine ultrasound is the method of choice for dating pregnancy
It is suggested that the number of post term pregnancies could be reduced by using 283 days, but conclusions about the length of pregnancy cannot be derived from menstrual data as the lengths of the follicular phase before conception are not known.
Risk Factors and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes in Small-for-Gestational-Age Births BY BRITT CLAUSSON
SGA, as defined by an individualised birth-weight standard, is a better predictor of adverse pregnancy outcomes than the commonly used population-based birthweight standard.
Correlation between self-reported gestational age and ultrasound
The self-reported gestational age in The Danish National Birth Cohort is concordance both with data from the National Hospital Discharge Register and with ultrasound-estimated gestationalAge, which was 2–3days shorter than gestational ages estimated by other methods.
