In 1967, I indicated that the number of lawsuits involving malformed infants seemed to be increasing, not realizing that the increase was foretelling an epidemic. The reasons for this epidemic are described in this paper and are due to attitudes and happenings in the medical, legal, and lay sectors of our society.
