Abstract

Our Awards have become one of the most prestigious events in the nursing calendar. But the glittering occasion, while it provides an impressive showcase of nurses' work, is not the real purpose of the awards. The most important aspect of the Nursing Standard annual awards is that they focus on patient outcomes. They attempt to reward ordinary nurses who do extraordinary things. These awards are not about innovation although we welcome submissions on new ways of extending and enhancing nursing's contribution to society.
