Saccharomyces cerevisiae opi3 mutant strains do not have the phospholipid N-methyltransferase that catalyzes the two terminal methylations in the phosphatidylcholine (PC) biosynthetic pathway. This results in a build up of the intermediate phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, causing a temperature-sensitive growth phenotype.
