Intracellular recordings were made from Retzius cells from segmental ganglia of the leech, Hirudo medicinalis. The ionic mechanisms of the following compounds were examined: L-glutamate, ibotenate, quisqualate, AMPA, kainate, methyltetrahydrofolate and carbachol.
