In this paper we continue the investigation initiated by Weymann as to the reason why the spectrum of the residual radiation deviates from a Planck curve. We shall consider the distortions of the spectrum resulting from radiation during the recombination of a primeval plasma. Analytical expressions are obtained for the deviation from an equilibrium spectrum due to Compton scattering by hot electrons. On the basis of the observational data it is concluded that a period of neutral hydrogen in the… Expand
The Thermal History of the Universe and the Spectrum of Relic Radiation
Many of the cosmological models currently under discussion and theories of the origin of galaxies which involve antimatter, strong turbulence and so on result in significant energy release during theExpand
Perturbations of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation and Structure Formations
After the recent discovery of temperature fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background radiation by COBS, the study of the temperature fluctuations becomes more and more important forExpand
The evolution of CMB spectral distortions in the early Universe
The energy spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) allows us to constrain episodes of energy release in the early Universe. In this paper, we revisit and refine computations of theExpand
The spectrum of the microwave background as a probe of the early universe
Abstract This paper gives a general overview of how a broad variety of thermal histories of the universe can lead to distortions of the microwave background spectrum and discusses the constraints setExpand
The y-sky: diffuse spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background
The non-linear evolution of the energy density of the radiation induces spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background both at recombination and during the reionization era. This distortionExpand
Plasma processes in the universe
Abstract In this paper we discuss the role played by collective plasma processes in generating electromagnetic radiation and in accelerating relativistic particles in astrophysical objects such asExpand
Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation in the Direction of a Moving Cluster of Galaxies with Hot Gas: Relativistic Corrections
It has recently been realized that the relativistic corrections to the spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) measured in the directions of galaxy clusters containing hot gasExpand
The Effect of a Nonthermal Tail on the Sunyaev-Zeldovich Effect in Clusters of Galaxies.
It is shown that the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect can be used as a powerful tool to probe the electron distribution in clusters of galaxies and discriminate among these different interpretations of the X-ray excess. Expand
Distortion of CMB spectrum due to dark matter annihilation
The monopole signal of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is a probe to the early Universe. The energy spectrum of the CMB holds the information of energy release episodes from redshift of about zExpand
The Effect of Radiative Decay of Massive Particles on the Spectrum of the Microwave Background Radiation
Abstract The effect of radiative decay of weakly interacting massive particles on the spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation is investigated by solving the Kompaneets equation in theExpand

Electron Radiative Transitions in a Coulomb Field
Free-free, bound-free, and bound-bound Gaunt factors and oscillator strengths were computed for electrons in a pure Coulomb potential. Numerical results are presented for a wide range of electron andExpand
From observations of interstellar optical absorption lines of CN, CH, and C${\mathrm{H}}^{+}$ we are able to impose upper limits, at three wavelengths, on the intensity of background radiation in theExpand
Spectrum of the 3° K Cosmic Microwave Radiation
Measurements of the 3° K cosmic blackbody radiation at frequencies below about 1 GHz have a limited accuracy because radiation from the Galaxy becomes a dominant component. Measurements at 408 MHzExpand

Autotransplantation and Homotransplantation of Thyroid Gland in the Hamster Cheek Pouch
EXPERIMENTAL transplantation of the thyroid gland has been widely investigated1,2. As a rule autotransplantation of the adult thyroid is easily attained, but positive results with homotransplantationExpand
