Laboratory experiments were undertaken in a unidirectional current flume in order to examine the role of turbulence on incipient sediment motion. An acoustic Doppler velocimeter was used to measure the instantaneous three-dimensional velocity components and acoustic backscatter (related to suspended sediment concentration).
