A personal note: the great pulmonary pathologist, Averill Liebow, MD, was one of the reasons I chose a career in chest radiology. When I was a medical student at Yale in the 1960s, he was the star of the Department of Pathology, clearly loved the structural complexities of the normal and abnormal lung, and was a role model as a scholar.
