Phytochemical analysis and in vitro biological activity of Betonica officinalis and Salvia officinalis extracts
TLDR
The results indicated that the extract inhibits scavenges stable 2,2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) cation radicals, which suggests these species might be a potential source of plant-derived anti-inflammatory substances.
Essential Oil of Common Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) from Jordan: Assessment of Safety in Mammalian Cells and Its Antifungal and Anti-Inflammatory Potential
TLDR
It is demonstrated that bioactive concentrations of S. officinalis oils do not affect mammalian macrophages and keratinocytes viability making them suitable to be incorporated in skin care formulations for cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes.
Salvia spp.: An Updated on Antioxidant Activity and Pharmacological Uses
TLDR
The aim of this chapter is to update of antioxidant activity and pharmacological uses of species of Salvia to provide a better understanding of their therapeutic application.
Current State of the Art on the Antioxidant Activity of Sage (Salvia spp.) and Its Bioactive Components.
TLDR
Results from the currently available studies that unravel the significant role of sage bioactive compounds, as antioxidant compounds, and the variety of methods used have been critically analyzed and discussed.
The biological activity of specific essential oil constituents
TLDR
The results show that the biological activities of EOC′s can vary when used alone and in combination, and do have the potential to be used as templates for novel drugs and as adjuncts to modern medicines in the combat against drug resistance.
Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Essential Oils from Five Selected Herbs
TLDR
The results of this study indicated that, except for the essential oil of P. fragrans, all of the essential oils demonstrated obvious antimicrobial activity against a broad range of microorganisms.
Antibacterial Screening, Biochemometric and Bioautographic Evaluation of the Non-Volatile Bioactive Components of Three Indigenous South African Salvia Species
TLDR
The study demonstrates the application of a biochemometric approach, bioautography, and direct MS analysis as useful tools for the rapid identification of bioactive constituents in plant extracts.
Composition and Antioxidant, Antienzymatic and Antimicrobial Activities of Volatile Molecules from Spanish Salvia lavandulifolia (Vahl) Essential Oils
TLDR
The current study describes the composition of Salvia lavandulifolia (Vahl) essential oils obtained from plants cultivated in Murcia (Spain), as determined by gas chromatography, providing for the first time a complete characterization of SlEOs from Murcia, Spain.
