PURPOSE The authors investigated the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis of regularly medicated schizophrenic patients. METHODS The subjects were 53 patients who were diagnosed according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders--Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for schizophrenia.
