  • A survey of 46 3rd world countries was conducted to determine whether the movement toward the core i.e. the nerve center of the nation which was quite rapid in the 1950s and 1960s had slackened during the 1970s. The countries selected met 2 criteria: they had conducted a national census in 1980 or within a year or 2 of that date; and they possessed census data covering either all or most of the period since 1950.
