The secant caustic of a planar curve $M$ is the image of the singular set of the secant map of $M$. We analyse the geometrical properties of the secant caustic of a planar curve, i.e. the number of branches of the secant caustic, the parity of the number of cusps and the number of inflexion points in each branch of this set. In particular, we investigate in detail some of the geometrical properties of the secant caustic of a rosette, i.e. a smooth regular oriented closed curve with non… Expand

Singularities of secant maps from a global viewpoint
The local properties of secant maps associated to curves in 3-space were first analyzed by J.W. Bruce [1] who proved that, for generic pairs of curves, such maps are locally stable and thus may onlyExpand

The Singular Evolutoids Set and the Extended Evolutoids Front
In this paper we introduce the notion of the singular evolutoid set which is the set of all singular points of all evolutoids of a fixed smooth planar curve with at most cusp singularities. By theExpand

For a generic embedding of a smooth closed surface M into R4, the subset of R4 which is the affine λ−equidistant of M appears as the discriminant set of a stable mapping M × M → R4, hence theirExpand
Generic space curves and secants
In this paper, we study the local structure of the secant mapping of a pair of disjoint curves. We show that for generic curves, the secant map and unit secant maps are locally stable. If we allowExpand
Iteration of involutes of constant width curves in the Minkowski plane
In this paper we study properties of the area evolute (AE) and the center symmetry set (CSS) of a convex planar curve $$\gamma$$γ. The main tool is to define a Minkowski plane where $$\gamma$$γExpand

The bifurcations of so-called affine equidistants for a surface in three-space are classified and described geometrically. An affine equidistant is formed by the points dividing in a given ratio theExpand

The improved isoperimetric inequality and the Wigner caustic of planar ovals
Abstract The classical isoperimetric inequality in the Euclidean plane R 2 states that for a simple closed curve M of the length L M , enclosing a region of the area A M , one gets L M 2 ⩾ 4 π A M .Expand
