Systematics of Lepidocyrtinus boneti Denis, 1948 (Collembola, Seirinae) reveals a new position for the species within Seirinae
- BiologyZooKeys

The species was first described in the genus Lepidocyrtinus, but based on morphological and molecular evidence it is here transferred to Seira, confirming the hypothesis of the existence of a different basal lineage of Seirinae in Southern Asia.

The revision enables a more objective diagnosis to Lepidosira and suggests that the genus is in need of a full revision due to its variable morphology, and lack of data needed to evaluate its monophyly, and an identification key for Neotropical genera of Entomobryinae.

This study generates and analyzes the mitochondrial genomes of 26 terminal taxa of Entomobryidae, and one species of Paronellidae to clarify the phylogenetic relationships within the Neotropical Seirinae, and validated that Tyrannoseira is a distinct lineage and proposes the elevation of Lepidocyrtinus to genus.

Whether L. violaceus is a monophyletic entity in Europe is analyzed to determine if the position and number of pseudopores on the different parts of the body and appendages is a phylogenetically useful character in the identification of the species or superspecific entities.
