Twenty-one inbred strains of mice were surveyed for inducibility of hepatic aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activity by the carcinogen 3-methylcholanthrene (MC). In 11 strains given MC, AHH activity increased 1.3- to 5-fold (inducible), whereas ten strains responded with a less than 0.5-fold increase (noninducible).
