Students Of methodology often refer to something called 'the genetic fallacy'. As its title suggests, this is a mistake in reasoning, but not one which results froma failure to conform torules of deduction. It has been vaguely described as 'a misapplication of the genetic method', and different interpretations of what this amounts to havebeen given by different authors.
