Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids which play a role in neuronal functions. Among the gangliosides, tetrasialoganglioside GQ1b shows neurotrophic factor-like actions, such as increasing neurite outgrowth, cell proliferation, and long-term potentiation.
