A granular sludge was developed in two stages in an anoxic USB denitrifying reactor. In spite of relatively low calcium ion concentrations in the feedstock. good, well-formed granules were produced. Performance of the reactor. at 87.5% nitrate removal, was good in comparison with other biological denitrifying systems.
