Phonerpeton is interpreted as a small, lightly built, terrestrially adapted carnivore, and is distinguished by the presence of a semilunar curvature of the squamosal, domed parietals, an unossified sphenethmoid, long and slender mid-dorsal ribs, and a radius with a semicircular cross section.
