We make a general derivation for the magnetic dipole-dipole interaction based on the mediation of the quantized electro-magnetic field. Due to the interaction with the dipoles, the dynamics of the field is added by a dipole field, which finally gives rise to the dipole-dipole interaction. Different from previous studies, the rotating-wave-approximation is no longer needed throughout this derivation, and our result naturally gives the interaction for non-resonant dipoles. Moreover, our…

Field-induced magnetic dipolar interaction for general boundary conditions
By properly considering the propagation dynamics of the dipole field, we obtain the full magnetic dipolar interaction between two quantum dipoles for general situations. With the help the Maxwell

The magnetic dipole-dipole interaction induced by electromagnetic field
We give a derivation for the indirect interaction between two magnetic dipoles induced by the quantized electromagnetic field. It turns out that the interaction between permanent dipoles directly
Tuning the Dipole-Dipole Interaction in a Quantum Gas with a Rotating Magnetic Field.
It is shown that a magic rotation angle exists at which the mean-field DDI can be eliminated, and at this angle, the expansion dynamics of the condensate is close to that predicted for a nondipolar gas.
Resonant dipole–dipole interaction in confined and strong-coupling dielectric geometries
Using the electromagnetic response function of an electric dipole located within a dielectric geometry, we derive the mathematical equivalence between the classical response and quantum mechanical
Dipole-dipole interaction in cavity QED: The weak-coupling, nondegenerate regime
We compute the interaction energies of a two-atom system placed in the middle of a perfectly reflecting planar cavity, in the perturbative regime. Explicit expressions are provided for the van der
Magnetic dipolar interaction in a Bose-Einstein condensate atomic interferometer.
The model indicates that dipolar interaction can be compensated by a proper choice of the scattering length and that the magnetic dipole interaction should not represent an obstacle for atom interferometry with Bose-Einstein condensates with a tunable interaction.
Exact solution of the Thomas-Fermi equation for a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate with dipole-dipole interactions
We derive an exact solution to the Thomas-Fermi equation for a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) which has dipole-dipole interactions as well as the usual s-wave contact interaction, in a harmonic trap.
Comparing contact and dipolar interactions in a Bose-Einstein condensate.
The relative strength epsilon dd of the magnetic dipole-dipole interaction compared with the contact interaction in a dipolar chromium Bose-Einstein condensate is measured and this result confirms the validity of the theoretical approach used to describe the dipolar Bose -Einsteincondensate.
Dynamical theory of single-photon transport in a one-dimensional waveguide coupled to identical and nonidentical emitters
We develop a general dynamical theory for studying a single photon transport in a one-dimensional (1D) waveguide coupled to multiple emitters which can be either identical or non-identical. In this
