Reptiles figure prominently in both historical and current research on sexual size dimorphism (SSD), in part because of the considerable range of dimorphisms and life histories observed within this group. In this chapter, we describe the major patterns of SSD in reptiles and discuss the primary evolutionary hypotheses and ecological correlates proposed to explain these patterns.
