The homeobox gene superfamily includes many genes implicated in brain development in vertebrates; for example, the Otx, Emx, Dmbx, Gbx, En and Hox gene families. We describe the evolutionary history of the homeobox gene superfamily, as inferred from molecular phylogenetics and chromosomal mapping.
