We review the electronic properties of bilayer graphene, beginning with a description of the tight-binding model of bilayer graphene and the derivation of the effective Hamiltonian describing massive chiral quasiparticles in two parabolic bands at low energies. We take into account five tight-binding parameters of the Slonczewski-Weiss-McClure model of bulk graphite plus intra- and interlayer asymmetry between atomic sites which induce band gaps in the low-energy spectrum. The Hartree model of… Expand
Band structure mapping of bilayer graphene via quasiparticle scattering
A perpendicular electric field breaks the layer symmetry of Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene, resulting in the opening of a band gap and a modification of the effective mass of the charge carriers.Expand

It is revealed how the bandgap in bilayer graphene antidot lattices (GALs) follows a different scaling law than in monolayer GALs and an explanation using the Dirac model is provided. Expand
Band gap and broken chirality in single-layer and bilayer graphene

Electron-hole hybridization in bilayer graphene
This work uncovered a strong modulation of electronic states in bilayer graphene subject to periodic potentials, and observed for the first time the hybridization of electron and hole sub-bands, resulting in local band gaps at both primary and secondary charge neutrality points. Expand

Electronic properties of graphene multilayers.
It is shown that the quasiparticle decay rate has a minimum as a function of energy, there is a universal minimum value for the in-plane conductivity of order e(2)/h per plane and, unexpectedly, the c-axis conductivity is enhanced by disorder at low doping, leading to an enormous conductivity anisotropy at low temperatures.
