Mitragyna speciosa Korth. leaves have been traditionally used by Malay and Thai natives for its opium-like effect and coca-like stimulant ability to enhance tolerance for hard work. Mitragynine is the major indole alkaloid in this plant. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the alkaloid extract of M. speciosa leaves and its major alkaloid mitragynine on exploratory behaviour, short-term memory and motor coordination in mice using Y-maze and rota-rod tests, respectively. Figures and Tables from this paper

Anxiolytic-like effects of mitragynine in the open-field and elevated plus-maze tests in rats
TLDR
Findings reveal that the acute administration of mitragynine produces anxiolytic-like effects and this could be possibly attributed to the interactions among opioidergic, GABAergic and dopaminergic systems in brain regions involved in anxiety.
Mitragynine (Kratom) impairs spatial learning and hippocampal synaptic transmission in rats
TLDR
The data suggest that high doses of mitragynine cause memory deficits, possibly via inhibition of Ca2+ influx and disruption of hippocampal synaptic transmission and long-term potentiation induction.
Abuse potential and adverse cognitive effects of mitragynine (kratom)
TLDR
Findings provide evidence for an addiction potential with cognitive impairments for mitragynine, which suggest its classification as a harmful drug.
Cerebellum and endocannabinoid receptors: a new neurobiological link for mitragynine (Mitragyna speciosa Korth) abuse liability
TLDR
Leads build for the arguments to posit the involvement of ubiquitous endocannabinoid receptors within the cerebellum and the evidences for cerebellar non-motor functions towards a potential new player as the basis for abuse liability of Kratom, accumulating to addiction.
Acute mitragynine administration suppresses cortical oscillatory power and systems theta coherence in rats
TLDR
Findings show that mitragynine induces frequency-specific changes in cortical neural oscillatory activity that could potentially impact cognitive functioning, and the absence of drug effects within regions of the mesolimbic pathway may suggest either a lack of addiction potential, or an underlying mechanism of addiction that is distinct from other opioid analgesic agents.
Cerebellum and Endocannabinoid Receptors : A New Possible Neurobiological Link For Mitragynine ( Mitragyna Speciosa Korth ) Abuse Liability
TLDR
Leads build for the arguments to posit the involvement of ubiquitous endocannabinoid receptors within the cerebellum and the evidences for cerebellar non-motor functions towards a potential new player as the basis for abuse liability of Kratom, accumulating to addiction.
Neurodefensive Effect of Olea europaea L. in Alloxan-Induced Cognitive Dysfunction and Brain Tissue Oxidative Stress in Mice: Incredible NaturalNootropic
TLDR
The existing study suggests that EEOE fruit shows momentous neurodefensive activity and may have impending therapeutic value in the treatment of some neurological disorders alike AD.
Long-Term Cognitive Effects of Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa Korth.) Use
TLDR
Higher intake of kratom juice did not appear to impair motor, memory, attention or executive function of regular kratom users, and the performance of k Mitragyna speciosa using groups were comparable on all neuropsychological domains.
Novel Psychoactive Substances—Recent Progress on Neuropharmacological Mechanisms of Action for Selected Drugs
TLDR
A summary review on a number of NPS for which the neuropharmacological evaluation has made important progress in recent years shows not only emerging harm potentials but also some potential medical applications.

Alterations in behavior and memory induced by the essential oil of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (ginger) in mice are cholinergic-dependent
TLDR
The results suggest that EOG effects are, at least in part, dependent upon an antagonist action on the central muscarinic cholinergic system.
Effect of Co-administration of Morphine and Cholinergic Antagonists on Y-maze Spatial Recognition Memory Retrieval and Locomotor Activity in Mice
TLDR
Investigating whether morphine would interact with the cholinergic antagonists, scopolamine and atropine in a Y-maze spatial recognition memory showed that co-administration disturbed the inspective exploratory behavior but not the inquisitive behavior of the spatial memory retrieval, while the drugs didn't cause amnesia when single administered of the concerned low doses.
Conditioning of morphine-induced locomotor activity and stereotyped behaviour in rats
TLDR
Development of pharmacodynamic tolerance and, to a lesser degree, conditioning contribute to the shift in behaviour after repeated administration of morphine, as well as under the three protocols described.
Effects of the extracts from mitragyna speciosa Korth leaves on analgesic and behavioral activities in experimental animals
TLDR
The results suggest that the methanol and alkaloid extracts of M. speciosa leaves possess the analgesic activity which partly acted at opioid receptors in the supraspinal opioid system.
Effects of purine analogues on spontaneous alternation in mice
TLDR
The results indicate the ability of A1 but not A2 receptor activation to modify working memory deficits induced by scopolamine, but suggest that endogenous adenosine does not normally participate in working memory processes.
Effect of aqueous antler extract on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice and antioxidant activities
TLDR
The results suggest that AAE showed the potential cognitive-enhancing activity by regulating cholinergic marker enzyme activities and promoting the antioxidant system.
Pharmacological and Behavioral Characteristics of Interactions between Vigabatrin and Conventional Antiepileptic Drugs in Pentylenetetrazole-Induced Seizures in Mice: An Isobolographic Analysis
TLDR
The application of VGB in combination with PB, ESM, CZP, and VPA suppressed the clonic phase of PTZ-induced seizures, having no harmful or deleterious effects on behavioral functioning of the animals tested, which might be advantageous in further clinical practice.
