The t(1;19) chromosomal translocation is detected cytogenetically in approximately 5-6% of childhood early Blineage acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL). The translocation has, in the past, been associated with an increased risk of relapse, although recent protocols have resulted in increased overall survival. The resulting E2A-PBX1 protein has been investigated extensively and shown to be capable of transformation in fibroblast, myeloid and T lineage cells.
