The effects of copper depletion on cytochrome c oxidase.

Abstract

Copper was removed from beef heart cytochrome c oxidase by either treatment with bathocuproine sulfonate (BCS) or by dialysis against potassium cyanide. Cyanide produced a concomitant decrease in both EPRdetectable and EPR-undetectable copper, while BCS gave enhanced removal of EPR-detectable copper. The iron content was unchanged by both processes.
