1 A method is described in which changes in intrapulmonary airway tone of guinea‐pig isolated lungs are reflected by changes in intraluminal perfusion pressure. 2 A supramaximal dose of arachidonic acid (AA) (61 μm) was found to have little on no action on baseline perfusion pressure. However, following elevation of perfusion pressure with histamine, AA caused a dose‐dependent pressure decrease. This was also mimicked by prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) and PGE2. 3 AA induced a reduction of histamine… Expand

A lung perfusion technique for the detection of antigenic intrapulmonary bronchoconstriction and its mediation.
TLDR
Overall, drug-induced modulation of allergic bronchoconstriction suggests that this model more closely resembles the antigenic reactions observed in the parenchymal strip preparation than in the trachea. Expand
Airway synthesis of 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid: metabolism by cyclooxygenase to a bronchodilator.
TLDR
The data suggest that 20-HETE is an endogenous product of rabbit airway tissue and may modulate airway resistance in a cyclooxygenase-dependent manner. Expand

The effects of arachidonic acid, indomethacin and SC-19220 on guinea-pig tracheal muscle tone.
TLDR
The responses of tracheal muscle to arachidonic acid are concluded to be partly due to prostaglandin synthesis, supporting the hypothesis that this process maintanins trachea muscle tone. Expand
A new approach to anti-inflammatory drugs.
TLDR
2-pyrazoline inhibits both pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism in vitro and causes a dose-dependent reduction in carrageenin-induced oedema in the rat paw, and BW755C reduces prostaglandin concentration in inflammatory exudates and has a significantly greater effect on leukocyte migration than indomethacin. Expand
Vascular Responses to Arachidonic Acid in the Perfused Canine Lung
TLDR
The results suggest that arachidonic acid is converted into vasoactive intermediates or a prostaglandin, and the vaso Active Intermediateates or the prostaglandsin act directly on precapillary pulmonary vascular smooth muscle rather than through platelet, plasma, adrenergic, or cholinergic mechanisms. Expand
A POSSIBLE ROLE FOR LIPOXYGENASE PRODUCTS AS REGULATORS OF AIRWAY SMOOTH MUSCLE REACTIVITY
TLDR
Compounds which inhibit both the cyclo‐oxygenase and lipoxygenases pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism not only did not augment histamine‐induced contractions of the guinea‐pig trachea, but also completely reversed the increased reactivity to histamine produced by indomethacin. Expand

TLDR
Results indicate that the products of cyclooxygenase are predominantly involved in the early phase of arachidonic acid-induced contractions of guinea pig lung strips and the Products of lipoxygen enzyme are predominantly related to the late phase of ARACHidonic Acid-induced contraction. Expand

TLDR
The results show that arachidonate lipoxygenase products may be responsible for the contractile responses seen in the presence of indomethacin. Expand
Prostaglandin endoperoxides. VII. Novel transformations of arachidonic acid in guinea pig lung.
TLDR
Guinea Pig lung homogenates as well as intact guinea pig lung converted added arachidonic acid predominantly into PHD and HHT, metabolites of the prostaglandin endoperoxide PGG2, and to a lesser extent into the classical prostag landins PGE2 and PGF2α. Expand
Thromboxane A2: effects on airway and vascular smooth muscle.
TLDR
Intravenous injection of thromboxane A2 into anaesthetized quinea pigs was followed by a pronounced increase in the tracheal insufflation pressure, potency compared to prostaglandin H2, 31-45. Expand

TLDR
It is suggested that lipoxygenase iny be useful in determining the role of SRS in inflammatory processes in vivo. Expand
The actions of 5-, 12-, and 15-HETE on tracheobronchial smooth muscle.
TLDR
Subthreshold doses of 5-HETE potentiated histamine-induced contractions of human isolated bronchial muscle and may suggest that 5- HETE plays a significant role in the airway hyperreactivity commonly associated with asthma. Expand
