The effects of aging and extraction on the polar and dispersion components of the surface free energy of redwood and Douglas-fir were investigated. Extracted Douglas-fir and extracted and unextracted redwood have similar dispersion and polar force contributions to the total surface free energy, with the polar forces marginally predominant.
