The objective of this study was to determine the effects of garlic oil (Allium sativa), turmeric powder (Curcuma longa Linn) and Monensin on Total apparent digestibility of nutrients in Baloochi lambs. The experiment was designed as a 4 x 4 Latin square using 4 ruminally baloochi lambs with 4 treatments in four 28&d periods. Treatments were control (no additive), garlic oil (0. 4 g/d), monensin (0. 2 g/d) and turmeric powder (20 g/d). Total apparent digestibility's (% of intake) of organic…

The nutritional applications of garlic (Allium sativum) as natural feed additives in animals

This review compiles the information describing the effects of feeding garlic and its extracts on selected performance parameters in animals (chicken, rabbits, ruminants, pigs and fish) to provide reference for scientists and entrepreneurs to investigate the applications of feeds added with garlic and allicin by-products for the improvement of animal husbandry and aquatic production.

Effect of thymol and carvacrol on nutrient digestibility in rams fed high or low concentrate diets.

Future research should determine the long-term effects of essential oils on digestibility and performance in sheep, before recommendation can be made for their use under practical husbandry conditions.

Effect of Garlic Extract Supplementation on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility and Some Blood Serum Biochemical Changes of Fattening Lambs

Twentyfour growing lambs, which were apparently healthy, of nearly the same body weight (approx. 22.29kg) were used in this study to investigate the effect of garlic extract supplementation on growth

Nutritional Studies on the Use of Garlic, Cinnamon and Peppermint in Sheep Nutrition and Their Impact on Gas Production and Digestibility

It could be concluded that the three plants as a nature additives in ruminant diet decreased gas production and improved animal digestibility and dry matter digestibility was significantly increased except garlic.

Beneficial Effects of Garlic in Livestock and Poultry Nutrition: A Review

The use of garlic in feed as replacement of antibiotics will reduce antimicrobial resistance and ensure safe, organic and healthy food for humans.

Supplementation Effect of Herbal and Organic Minerals in Beef Cattle Feed on Consumption, Digestibility, Efficiency and Daily Gain

Conclusively, supplementation with 250 ppm garlic powder and  Cr-Zn organic minerals was the best for beef cattle feed to improve daily gain and feed efficiency.

Immunoglobulin G response and performance in Holstein calves supplemented with garlic powder and probiotics

Higher serum IgG in GP may indicate an improved intake and utilisation of nutrients that are responsible for immunity modulation and regulation in GP, and Probiotics and their combinations with garlic have the potential to reduce the incidence of diarrhoea when fed to young calves.

Supplementation of Heit-Chrose into Dairy Cow Feed Improves in Vitro Rumen Fermentation

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of Heit-Chrose (HC) supplementation using in vitro method on ruminal fermentation of dairy cattle. HC is a feed supplement containing allicin,

Effects of garlic and juniper berry essential oils on ruminal fermentation and on the site and extent of digestion in lactating cows.

Results of this study indicate that supplementing dairy cows with GAR and JUN essential oils improved feed digestibility in the rumen, but possibly at the expense of a reduction in the flow of bypass protein to the small intestine.

Effect of essential oils, tylosin, and monensin on finishing steer performance, carcass characteristics, liver abscesses, ruminal fermentation, and digestibility.

Addition of a EOM or monensin to a diet containing tylosin improves G:F, but little difference was observed in metabolism or digestibility in finishing steers.

Effects of addition of essential oils and monensin premix on digestion, ruminal fermentation, milk production, and milk composition in dairy cows.

Results from this study suggest that feeding EO and MO to lactating dairy cows had limited effects on digestion, ruminal fermentation characteristics, milk production, and milk composition.

Effect of Yucca schidigera on ruminal fermentation and nutrient digestion in heifers.

In a replicated 3 x 3 Latin square experiment, six heifers fed a 61% barley grain:39% alfalfa silage diet (DM basis) were given intraruminal doses of powdered Yucca schidigera (YS), with results likely resulted from a decreased concentration of protozoa and, presumably, from ammonia binding by YS.

Methods for dietary fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and nonstarch polysaccharides in relation to animal nutrition.

In addition to NDF, new improved methods for total dietary fiber and nonstarch polysaccharides including pectin and beta-glucans now are available and are also of interest in rumen fermentation.

Essential oils and aromatic plants in animal feeding – a European perspective. A review.

The last two decades have seen a substantial increase in the use of aromatic herbs and essential oils as feed additives in animal nutrition. One of the main reasons for this trend is to substitute

Monensina e digestibilidade aparente em ovinos alimentados com proporções de volumoso/concentrado

The response to the use of ionophores is influenced by several factors, such as the diet energetic density. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of monensin on total tract

Influence of grain and monensin supplementation on ruminal fermentation, intake, digesta kinetics and incidence and severity of frothy bloat in steers grazing winter wheat pastures.

Three 10-d collection periods were conducted to evaluate effects of no supplement, .5 kg-head-1.d-1 (M) on forage intake and digestion by 12 ruminally cannulated beef steers grazing irrigated winter wheat pasture and results indicated that forage DM intake was not influenced by supplementation during any period.

Monensin supplementation and in vivo methane production by steers.

Reduced ruminal methane production with monensin feeding can explain a portion of the increased feed efficiency.
