Acetylcholine (ACh) was collected from the alvear surface of the dorsal hippocampus in anesthetized rabbits by means of small cups (0.25 sq. cm) filled with artificial cerebrospinal fluid which contained eserine salicylate and atropine sulfate (1 /zg/ml of each). Stimulation of the medial septal nucleus (MS) at frequencies of 5, 10 and 50 Hz produced a similar increase in the release of ACh which was greater than the amount of ACh released with 1 Hz stimulation.
