AIMS Polaprezinc (PZ), which consists of l-carnosine and zinc, is widely used to treat gastric ulcers. We compared the effects of PZ with those of rebamipide (RM) on the expression of inflammatory cytokines, antioxidants, growth factors, and heat shock proteins (HSP) in a rat model. MAIN METHODS Seventy Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to test groups according to the dose of PZ at 5, 10, or 30 mg/kg or RM at 10, 30, or 100 mg/kg. Next, we obtained ulcer indices from rats with… Expand
Effects of polaprezinc on gastric mucosal damage and neurotransmitters in a rat model of chemotherapy-induced vomiting
TLDR
PZ decreased the levels of DA, 5-HT, and NF-κB in blood and brain tissues caused by CTX or DDP and reduced the chemotherapy-induced damage to the small intestine, stomach, and brain. Expand

TLDR
Polaprezinc can provide effective protection for acute mucosal injury and the underlying mechanism is not directly related to PGE2 and EGF. Expand
Gastroprotective Effects of PMK-S005 against Ethanol-Induced Acute Gastric Damage in Rats
TLDR
It is suggested that PMK-S005 prevents gastric mucosal damage and that these gastroprotective activities are due to anti-inflammatory effects and enhancement of the gastric defense system, including antioxidant enzymes. Expand
Prophylactic efficacy of patchoulene epoxide against ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats: Influence on oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis.
TLDR
Findings suggested that PAO has gastric protective activity against ethanol and this might be related to its influence on inflammatory response, oxidative stress, apoptosis cascade and gastric mucosal defense. Expand
Gastroprotective effect of aucubin against ethanol‐induced gastric mucosal injury in mice
TLDR
It is demonstrated that aucubin shows protective effect against ethanol‐induced acute gastric mucosal injury through its anti‐inflammatory and anti‐oxidant effects. Expand
Protective Effects of Garlic Extract, PMK-S005, Against Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs–Induced Acute Gastric Damage in Rats
TLDR
It is suggested that PMK-S005 can be a useful gastroprotective agent against acute gastric mucosal damage by suppressing proinflammatory cytokines, down-regulating cPLA2, COX-2 and LTB4 expression, and increasing the synthesis of mucus. Expand
The effect of thalidomide on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal damage in mice: involvement of inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide.
TLDR
It seems that thalidomide as an anti-inflammatory agent may have a protective effect against alcohol-induced mucosal damage by inhibition of neutrophil infiltration and reducing the production of nitric oxide and inflammatory cytokines in gastric tissue. Expand
The antiulcer effect of Cibotium barometz leaves in rats with experimentally induced acute gastric ulcer
TLDR
Grossly, the data demonstrated a significant decrease in the ulcer area of rats pretreated with plant extract in a dose-dependent manner with respect to the ulcers of ulcerated group. Expand
Wheat peptide protects against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal damage through downregulation of TLR4 and MAPK
Abstract Excessive alcohol consumption can induce gastric mucosal damage. The present work aimed to examine the protective effect of wheat peptides against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal damage inExpand
Protective effects of polysaccharide from Dendrobium nobile against ethanol-induced gastric damage in rats.
TLDR
This study investigated the ethanol-induced gastric ulcer protective effect of polysaccharide (JCP) for the first time, and elucidated that the protective mechanisms. Expand

The membrane-stabilizing action of zinc carnosine (Z-103) in stress-induced gastric ulceration in rats.
TLDR
The present study demonstrates the antiulcer effect of Z-103 but indicates that the protective action is likely to be mediated by its membrane-stabilizing action on mast cells and lysosomes in the gastric glandular mucosa. Expand
Induction of cyclooxygenase-2 in rat gastric mucosa by rebamipide, a mucoprotective agent.
TLDR
The results indicate that rebamipide induces COX-2 expression, increases PGE(2) levels, and enhances gastric mucosal defense in a COx-2-dependent manner. Expand
Effects of Polaprezinc on Lipid Peroxidation, Neutrophil Accumulation, and TNF-α Expression in Rats with Aspirin-Induced Gastric Mucosal Injury
TLDR
The beneficial effects of polaprezinc on aspirin-induced gastric mucosal injury may be attributed to its antioxidative and antiinflammatory properties. Expand
Expression of HSP72 in the gastric mucosa is regulated by gastric acid in rats-correlation of HSP72 expression with mucosal protection.
TLDR
The results might indicate that the expression of H SP72 in the gastric mucosa is physiologically regulated by gastric acid, and that HSP72 induction could be important in view of mucosal protection especially when HSP 72 expression is reduced by administration of acid suppressing agents such as proton pump inhibitor or H2 receptor antagonist. Expand
Zinc Supplementation with Polaprezinc Protects Mouse Hepatocytes against Acetaminophen-Induced Toxicity via Induction of Heat Shock Protein 70
TLDR
It is suggested that polaprezinc, in particular its zinc component, induces HSP70 expression in mouse primary cultured hepatocytes, and inhibits lipid peroxidation after APAP treatment, resulting in protection against APAP toxicity. Expand
Apple polyphenol extracts prevent aspirin-induced damage to the rat gastric mucosa.
TLDR
APE reduces aspirin-induced gastric injury independently of acid inhibition, and it is speculated that APE might be of therapeutic use in the prophylaxis of aspirin-related gastropathy. Expand

TLDR
It is concluded that trace micronutrients such as Zn(2+) could be successfully measured in the gastric juice and gastric mucosa during ulcer healing and can exert a beneficial influence on the ulcers healing via Zn (2+) mediated increase in gastric microcirculation, antisecretory activity and gastrin release. Expand
Preventive actions of N-(3-aminopropionyl)-L-histidinato zinc (Z-103) through increases in the activities of oxygen-derived free radical scavenging enzymes in the gastric mucosa on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal damage in rats.
TLDR
The results suggest that Z-103 may partly protect rat gastric mucosa against ethanol-induced damage by scavenging oxygen-derived free radicals via increases in the synthesis of SOD-like and GSH-px enzymes in the mucosa. Expand
Inhibitory effect of polaprezinc on the inflammatory response to Helicobacter pylori.
TLDR
Results suggest that polaprezinc, mainly the zinc component, may inhibit H pylori-induced PMN-mediated gastric inflammation by attenuating CD11b/CD18 expression on PMN and IL-8 production from gastric epithelial cells. Expand
