The pathogenesis of diabetic neuropathy is multifactorial, but in general hyperglycemia through polyol and protein glycation pathways is considered to be a key etiological factor. Most likely insulin deficiency, in experimentally induced type I diabetes, contributes to the development of diabetes neuropathy.
