In the rat, 48 h of food deprivation significantly reduces hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) gene expression, anterior pituitary thyrotropin (TSH) gene expression and circulating triiodothyronine (T3).
