Ectopic fat depostion in youth with obesity is associated with an increased cardiovascular disease risk. The aim of this meta‐analysis was to summarize the evidence for the use of diet and/or exercise on ectopic adiposity in this population.
Effects of Exercise in Addition to a Family-Based Lifestyle Intervention Program on Hepatic Fat in Children With Overweight
TLDR
Multicomponent intervention programs that include exercise training may help to reduce adiposity, insulin resistance, and hepatic steatosis in overweight/obese children.
Effects of aerobic exercise and resistance exercise on physical indexes and cardiovascular risk factors in obese and overweight school-age children: A systematic review and meta-analysis
TLDR
Aerobic exercise and resistance exercise are associated with improvement in BMI, body fat percentage, VO2peak, TG, LDL, TC, while not in HDL in school-age children with obesity or overweight.
Effectiveness of dietary interventions on weight outcomes in childhood: a systematic review meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
TLDR
The findings of this meta-analysis suggested that dietary interventions improved BMI and BMI z-score, whereas these results are limited due to substantial heterogeneity and study quality of the included studies.
Dietary habits and physical activity: Which influence on abdominal fat deposition in children and adolescents?
TLDR
In this sample PA performed at least 3–4 hours/week is inversely associated with abdominal fat deposition and is expected to positively impact health, protecting from abdominal obesity.
A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis for Effects of Exercise Interventions on Accumulation of Subcutaneous, Visceral, and Ectopic Fat in Overweight and Obese Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial
TLDR
Participating in exercise interventions has favorable effects on reducing weight and accumulation of subcutaneous and visceral fat.
Unsupervised Exercise Training Was Not Found to Improve the Metabolic Health or Phenotype over a 6-Month Dietary Intervention: A Randomised Controlled Trial with an Embedded Economic Analysis
TLDR
A multidisciplinary lifestyle approach seems successful in reducing ectopic fat deposition and improving the metabolic risk profile in women with overweight and obesity.
The Effect of a Family-Based Lifestyle Education Program on Dietary Habits, Hepatic Fat and Adiposity Markers in 8–12-Year-Old Children with Overweight/Obesity
TLDR
A 22-week family-based healthy lifestyle program seems to be effective on improving diet quality and health in children with overweight/obesity and these should focus on SSB avoidance and physical activity.
Increased Serum GDF15 Related to Improvement in Metabolism by Lifestyle Intervention Among Young Overweight and Obese Adults
TLDR
Increased serum GDF15 increased significantly with the follow-up time in the UP group and waist circumference, fasting serum insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, and triglycerides decreased, but no significant differences in all parameters were detected in Down group.

Improving and maintaining cardiometabolic health remains a major focus of health efforts for the pediatric population. Recent research contributes understanding of the systems-level nutrition factors
Changes in intra- and extramyocellular lipids in morbidly obese patients after non-surgical weight loss-a pilot study using magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
TLDR
Significant reductions of IMCL following a successful conservative weight loss intervention are detectable by using MRS, which may have the potential to serve as an additional marker of clinically meaningful obesity treatment.

TLDR
Supervised exercise-only or combined diet and exercise interventions can reduce VAT in overweight and obese children and adolescents, and the strongest effect was found in exercise- only groups.

TLDR
Lifestyle interventions can reduce ectopic fat accumulation in the internal organs of overweight and obese adults and the results on IMCL should be interpreted with care, keeping the 'athlete's paradox' in mind.
