Studies have shown that alcohol can upregulate the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) gene in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). High expression of PPARγ can promote adipogenic differentiation of BMSCs, and reduce their osteogenic differentiation.
