Abstract We investigated the histopathological effects of methotrexate (MTX), a chemotherapeutic agent, and beta glucan (BG), an antioxidant, on rat testis. We used four groups of Sprague-Dawley male rats: MTX, MTX + BG, BG, and control. The MTX group was exposed to a single dose of MTX on the first day of experiment. The MTX + BG group was exposed to a single dose of MTX and BG on the first day of experiment followed by BG for 4 additional days. The BG group was exposed to BG for 5 days. The… Expand
Protective Effect of Proanthocyanidin against Methotrexate-Induced Testicle Damage in Rats
The results show that PAC does not completely prevent damage to the testicles caused by MTX but that it has an important protective effect. Expand
Protective effect of melatonin against methotrexate-induced testicular damage in the rat model: An experimental study
Melatonin improves the epididymal sperm concentration by decreasing the expression of caspase-3 and increasing that of tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins in MTX-treated testes, indicating its protective effect against testicular damage induced by MTX. Expand
The effect of bee pollen on reproductive and biochemical parameters in methotrexate-induced testicular damage in adult rats
The results suggest that bee pollen has a healing effect on reproductive parameters in testicular damage caused by MTX, and this effect may be protective against testicular injury caused by Methotrexate. Expand
Role of nitric oxide donor in methotrexate-induced testicular injury via modulation of pro-inflammatory mediators, eNOS and P-glycoprotein
It is concluded that NIC pretreatment attenuated MTX-induced testicular injury via significantly increased eNOS immunoexpression, antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, and Interestingly, NIC high dose is more protective than low dose. Expand
Protective effects of curcumin against methotrexate-induced testicular damage in rats by suppression of the p38-MAPK and nuclear factor-kappa B pathways
CMN may reduce MTX-induced testicular damage by suppressing the p38 MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways and improved loss of body weight, morphometric values, and histological damage due to MTX. Expand
Antigenotoxic effects of rutin against methotrexate genotoxicity in Swiss albino mice
The present study implies the major therapeutic use of rutin against genotoxic effects of methotrexate, a flavonoid to modulate the side effects induced by the anticancer drug Methotrexate. Expand
The effects of dietary restriction and administration of β‐glucan from Euglena gracilis on the sperm characteristics and reproductive organs of rats
It is demonstrated that β‐glucan treatment significantly improved some spermatological characteristics in rats and could be used for its positive effects on motility, spermatozoa vitality rate and acrosome integrity for infertile men. Expand
B-Glucans are glucose polymers obtained from various sources, for instance, fungus, grain, and yeast. Several receptors mediate the process of β-glucan actions or activities in the organism; theseExpand
A systematic overview of the spermatotoxic and genotoxic effects of methotrexate, ganciclovir and mycophenolate mofetil
Data from human and animal studies indicate transient spermatotoxic and genotoxic potentials of immunosuppressive and cytotoxic doses of MTX, and studies investigating GCV and MMF are limited. Expand

Effect of growth hormone on testicular dysfunction induced by methotrexate in rats
Results suggested that GH had a protective effect on almost all destructive effects caused by MTX in rat testes and thus improved sperm parameters. Expand
Effects of Resveratrol on Methotrexate-Induced Testicular Damage in Rats
The results indicate that RES has protective effects against MTX-induced testis damage at the biochemical, histopathological, and apoptotic levels. Expand
The effect of vitamin E and L-carnitine against methotrexate-induced injury in rat testis.
Vitamin E and L-carnitine treatments decreased MTX-induced testicular histological injuries, and these results were supported by biochemical measurements. Expand
Antiapoptotic and antioxidant effects of beta-carotene against methotrexate-induced testicular injury.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of beta-carotene against testicular injury induced by methotrexate (MTX). DESIGN Experimental study. SETTING Animal and histology laboratory at InonuExpand
Beta-glucan ameliorates methotrexate-induced oxidative organ injury via its antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects.
The findings of the present study suggest that beta-glucan, through its antioxidant and immunoregulatory effects, may be of therapeutic value in alleviating the leukocyte apoptosis, oxidative tissue injury and thereby the intestinal and hepatorenal side effects of methotrexate treatment. Expand
Protective effects of thymoquinone against methotrexate-induced testicular injury
It is suggested that thymoquinone use may decrease the destructive effects of methotrexate on testicular tissue of patients using this agent. Expand
Beneficial effect of erdosteine on methotrexate-induced testicular toxicity in mice
Erdosteine could effectively protect the testes in methotrexate-induced toxicity in mice, and the levels of total antioxidant capacity and total oxidative stress, and myeloperoxidase activity in the metotrexate group were higher than the control group (p<0.05). Expand
Protective Effects of Thymoquinone against Methotrexate-Induced Germ Cell Apoptosis in Male Mice
TQ protects testicular germ cell against MTX-induced apoptosis by affecting related genes regulation and showing that different concentrations of TQ could improve the harmful effects caused by the MTX. Expand
Cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of methotrexate in germ cells of male Swiss mice.
It can be concluded that MTX induced germ cell toxicity in mice and induced the testicular toxicity as evident from the histology of testis. Expand
Protective effects of propolis on methotrexate-induced testis injury in rat.
It was found that, methorexate gives rise to serious damage in the testes and propolis is a potent antioxidant agent in preventing testicular injury. Expand
