OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to determine the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of alpha lipoic acid (ALA) on methotrexate (MTX) induced kidney injury in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-two rats were equally divided into four groups; control, ALA, MTX and MTX with ALA groups. A single dose of MTX (20 mg/kg) was administered to make kidney injury to groups 3 and 4, intraperitoneally. The ALA was administered intraperitonealy in groups 2 and 4 and the other groups received… Expand

Carnosine administration reduced the MTX-induced oxidative stress and nephrotoxcity through its antioxidant properties and may be regarded as a promising agent to alleviate methotrexate-induced renal toxicity. Expand
Role of alpha-lipoic acid in ameliorating Cyclosporine A-induced pancreatic injury in albino rats: A structural, ultrastructural, and morphometric study
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of alpha-lipoic acid (α-LA) against cyclosporine A (CsA)-induced pancreatic toxicity in rats. Thirty-two male albino rats wereExpand
Does intraperitoneal medical ozone preconditioning and treatment ameliorate the methotrexate induced nephrotoxicity in rats?
The preconditioning and treatment with medical ozone ameliorated the nephrotoxicity induced by Mtx in rats by activating antioxidant enzymes and prevented renal tissue. Expand
Therapeutic effects of silymarin and naringin on methotrexate‐induced nephrotoxicity in rats: Biochemical evaluation of anti‐inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and antiautophagic properties
It is demonstrated that SLY and NRG protect against MTX-induced nephrotoxicity, and treatment silymarin and naringin can be used for the beneficial effect against methotrexate-induced kidney damage in cancer chemotherapy. Expand
Protective effect of alpha-lipoic acid against apical periodontitis-induced cardiac injury in rats.
It is concluded that ALA administration alleviated the AP-induced heart injury and improved cardiac structure and function, and therefore this agent may be of potential therapeutic value in protecting cardiac tissue from systemic injury caused by AP. Expand
Protective Effects of Origanum onites Essential Oil in the Methotrexate-Induced Rat Model: Role on Apoptosis and Hepatoxicity
Methotrexate (MTX) is an effective cytotoxic agent which is used to treat malignancies and inflammatory diseases. Origanum onites (O. onites) is found throughout the Eastern Mediterranean region andExpand
Effect of camphor on biochemical factors and gene expression of antioxidant enzymes, inflammatory and apoptotic factors against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats
Camphor can be useful in the attenuation of GEM-induced nephrotoxicity based on expression levels of examined enzymes and factors and improving kidney histopathological changes. Expand
Methotrexate-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats: Protective Effect of Mistletoe (Viscum album L.) Extract
It is demonstrated that HLX administration markedly reduced the MTX-induced acute oxidative stress and nephrotoxicity in rats through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Expand
Melatonin and alpha lipoic acid attenuate lopinavir/ritonavir - induced testicular toxicity in albino rats
The use of lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) could be associated with testicular toxicity as a limiting factor. The present study evaluated the effects of melatonin (MT) and alpha lipoic (ALA) acid onExpand
The effect of hippophae rhamnoides extract on oral mucositis induced in rats with methotrexate
Findings indicate that HRE as a natural product is an important advantage compared with synthetic drugs for prophylaxis of oral mucositis developed due to MTX. Expand
