The effect of N2O on pollen tube mitosis in styles and its potential significance for inducing haploidy in potato

Abstract

1. Pollen tubes with a single restitution sperm nucleus can be induced in Datura stramonium and Solanum phureja, when after pollination, plants are submitted to laughing gas (N2O) under pressure. 2. The cytological details of the N2O effect on pollen tube mitosis are described and its implications for the production of haploids are discussed. Pollen tubes… (More)
