The dopamine D3 antagonist U-99194A maleate increases social behaviors of isolation-induced aggressive male mice
@article{RodrguezArias1999TheDD, title={The dopamine D3 antagonist U-99194A maleate increases social behaviors of isolation-induced aggressive male mice}, author={Marta Rodr{\'i}guez-Arias and Cristina Masferrer Felip and Isolde Broseta and Jos{\'e} Mi{\~n}arro}, journal={Psychopharmacology}, year={1999}, volume={144}, pages={90-94} }
Rationale: Blockade of D1/D2 dopamine receptors produce an antiaggressive action commonly associated with an impairment of other motor behaviors. The D3 receptor seems to present opposite actions to the D1 and D2, since the blockade of this receptor produces stimulation of motor activity which has been associated with an increase in dopamine neurotransmission. Objective: In this work, the action of the dopamine D3 antagonist U-99194a maleate on locomotor activity and in a social interaction…

It is concluded that presynaptic dopamine function is necessary for the normal expression of aggressive behaviours, since CGS 10746B reduces aggression at doses that do not affect spontaneous motor activity.

Comparing the effects of dopamine D3 antagonists with different levels of selectivity over D2 receptors on motor activity as well as on agonist-induced hypoactivity, in mice and rats found significant species differences and movement-type differences were observed.

The findings suggest that the conditioned reinforcing effects of ethanol in DBA/2J mice as assessed by place conditioning are mediated by non-dopaminergic mechanisms.

The data suggest that preferential dopamine D(3) agonists may play a role in the therapy of anxiety, however, further studies are necessary to elucidate the mechanism of these actions.

The findings support the idea that D3R‐selective compounds may be useful for cocaine dependence medications development and suggest that even though these compounds have different efficacy in the AC bioassy, they produce similar brain activation and attenuation of cocaine hyperlocomotion.
