The sellar and parasellar region is an anatomically complex area where a number of neoplastic, inflammatory, infectious, developmental and vascular diseases can develop. Although most sellar lesions are due to pituitary adenomas, a number of other pathologies involving the parasellar region can present in a similar manner. The diagnosis of such lesions involves a multidisciplinary approach, and detailed endocrinological, ophthalmological, neuroimaging, neurological and finally histological…
Diagnosis and Treatment of Parasellar Lesions
TLDR
A deeper knowledge of this complex anatomical site, the improvement of imaging tools, as well as novel insights into the pathophysiology of presenting lesions are strongly needed to improve the management of parasellar lesions.
Radiotherapy of Parasellar Tumours
TLDR
This review examines the role of RT in parasellar tumours analysing several techniques, outcomes and side effects and concludes that conventional fractionated RT and modern radiation techniques have become a standard management option.
Imaging of Pituitary and Parasellar Disorders
TLDR
Lesions that commonly occur in the sellar and parasellar region include benign and malignant tumors, cysts, vascular pathology, inflammatory processes, and abscesses.
Nonneuroendocrine Neoplasms of the Pituitary Region.
TLDR
Following evolving recent advances in their diagnosis and therapy, such a multidisciplinary approach needs to be extended to establish evidence-based diagnostic and management plans for sellar neoplasms.
Sellar and parasellar lesions: multidisciplinary management
TLDR
Pre-operative planning and collaboration with several specialists are necessary in order to offer the patient the best treatment, minimizing complications.
Diagnostic Evaluation of the Lesions of the Sellar and Parasellar Region
TLDR
The sellar and parasellar region is an anatomically complex area that represents a critical junction for important contiguous structures and may embroil vital structures in a wide range of neoplastic, inflammatory, infectious, developmental and vascular diseases.
A clinical approach to parasellar lesions in the transition age
TLDR
Parasellar lesions in the transition age mostly include neoplastic lesions such as germinomas, hamartomas, optic gliomas, craniopharyngiomas Langerhans cell histiocytosis and chordomas, and rarely inflammatory lesions (hypophysitis, hypothalamitis).
MANAGEMENT OF ENDOCRINE DISEASE: Pituitary 'incidentaloma': neuroradiological assessment and differential diagnosis.
TLDR
Based on the low growth potential of non-functioning pituitary microadenomas and RCCs, periodic MRI surveillance is currently considered the optimal management strategy and stricter follow-up is required for macroadenomas, as increases in size occur more frequently.

Imaging of parasellar lesions.
TLDR
A practical short review of the most relevant CT and MRI characteristics, such as location, nature of contrast enhancement and presence of cystic components, together with clinical findings, which permit differentiation of themost frequent and less common lesions found in the parasellar region are presented.
Suprasellar haemangiopericytoma – challenges in diagnosis and treatment

The various differential diagnoses, the importance of a preoperative suspicion of this diagnosis and management are issues discussed in this illustrated review.
Tumors metastatic to the pituitary gland: case report and literature review.
TLDR
A 68-yr-old man, with no history of malignancy, presented with recent onset of hypopituitarism, mild diabetes insipidus, headaches, left oculomotor nerve palsy, and progressive bilateral deterioration of visual acuity and visual fields, and died 3 months after diagnosis of primary liver tumor.
Unusual causes of sellar/parasellar masses in a large transsphenoidal surgical series.
TLDR
Two cases in which the diagnoses were unexpected are presented in detail, one from this operative series and one who did not require surgery, to illustrate certain critical features that may aid in the evaluation of the sellar/parasellar mass.
Pituitary metastases as presenting lesions of malignancy.
TLDR
The authors present two very unusual cases in which the pituitary lesions represented the onset symptoms of an otherwise unknown malignancy and suggest that the diagnosis of pituitsary metastases should be more closely considered even in the absence of a known primary tumor.
Minimally invasive biopsy of parasellar lesions: Safety and clinical applications of the endoscopic, transnasal approach
TLDR
The endoscopic, transnasal biopsy appears to offer a number of advantages over existing methods in selected patients as it employs the use of natural osseous corridors and minimizes the risks of negative biopsies or damage to critical neurovascular structures.
