Each muscle in the vertebrate limb is innervated by a motoneuronpool consisting of some hundreds of neurons. Since the central connectivity and therefore activation patterns dl@er between pools, it is important for normal function that each pool synapse only with its appropriate muscle This article considers some of the mechanisms by which this matchinn is achieved during embryonic development in the chick -
