The degradation of diethyl phthalate (DEP) in an aqueous solution during ozonation was investigated by identifying the oxidation intermediates using GC-MS. The experiments were carried out in semi-batch mode with a 1.5 mg l(-1)-min ozone dose. The proposed degradation pathways were divided into hydrolysis of the aliphatic chain (pathway (A)) and hydroxylation resulting from OH attack in the aromatic ring (pathway (B)). With increasing ozone dose, the aromatic ring of DEP was opened and acidic…

Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation of diethyl phthalate
ABSTRACTDiethyl phthalate (DEP) is one of the phthalate esters having wide industrial applications, but its occurrence in the aquatic environment has been linked to disruption of the endocrine
Fenton degradation of dialkylphthalates: products and mechanism
Contamination of wastewater by organic pollutants is a major worldwide issue. For instance plastic additives such as phthalates are found in wastewater. Efficient techniques are thus needed to clean
Catalytic ozonation of model organic compounds in aqueous solution promoted by metallic oxides
AbstractRemoval of Diethyl phthalate (DEP) from water has been accomplished through catalytic ozonation promoted by TiO2 and Al2O3. A laboratory setup was designed to evaluate and select the optimal
Treatment of Diethyl Phthalate Leached from Plastic Products in Municipal Solid Waste Using an Ozone-Based Advanced Oxidation Process
The peroxone (ozone/hydrogen peroxide) process (O3/H2O2), an O3-based advanced oxidation process (AOP), was demonstrated for the removal of diethyl phthalate (DEP) in synthetic leachate simulating solid-waste leachates from an open dump.
Radical-induced destruction of diethyl phthalate in aqueous solution: kinetics, spectral properties, and degradation efficiencies studies
In this work, the reactions of ∙OH, eaq−, and SO4∙− with diethyl phthalate (DEP) were investigated in aqueous solution by pulse radiolysis, and degradation efficiencies of DEP with ∙OH and eaq− were
Automated on-line monitoring of the TiO2-based photocatalytic degradation of dimethyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate.
A fully automated on-line system for monitoring the TiO2-based photocatalytic degradation of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) and diethyl phthalates (DEP) using sequential injection analysis (SIA) coupled to liquid chromatography (LC) with UV detection was proposed, finding products with lower toxicity than the initial molecules.
Advanced oxidation processes for the removal of phthalate esters (PAEs) in aqueous matrices: a review
Abstract Over the past few decades, phthalate esters (PAEs) used as additives to improve the persistence and flexibility of polymeric materials. They are also used in cosmetics, insect repellents,

Ozonation of Some Aromatic Compounds in Aqueous Solution: Styrene, Benzaldehyde, Naphthalene, Diethylphthalate, Ethyl and Chloro Benzenes
Abstract This study presents the ozonation of some of the aromatic compounds frequently found in French surface waters and which have not been the object of fundamental studies in an aqueous medium.
