This is the fourth paper in a series in which we attempt to put constraints on the flattening of dark halos in disk galaxies. We observed for this purpose the HI in edge-on galaxies, where it is in principle possible to measure the force field in the halo vertically and radially from gas layer flaring and rotation curve decomposition respectively. As reported in earlier papers in this series we have for this purpose analysed the HI channel maps to accurately measure all four functions that… Expand
The shape of dark matter haloes - V. Analysis of observations of edge-on galaxies
In previous papers in this series, we measured the stellar and H I content in a sample of edge-on galaxies. In the present paper, we perform a simultaneous rotation curve and vertical force fieldExpand
The shape of dark matter haloes – III. Kinematics and structure of the H i disc
We present a new strategy for fitting the structure and kinematics of the H I in edge-on galaxies using a fit to the terminal-velocity channel maps of a H I data cube. The strategy can deal withExpand
Flaring stellar disk in the low surface brightness galaxy UGC 7321
We theoretically study the vertical structure of the edge-on low surface brightness (LSB) galaxy UGC 7321. This is one of the few well-observed LSBs. We modeled it as a gravitationally coupled diskExpand
HERschel Observations of Edge-on Spirals (HEROES) - II. Tilted-ring modelling of the atomic gas disks
Context. Edge-on galaxies can offer important insight into galaxy evolution because they are the only systems where the distribution of the different components can be studied both radially andExpand
Hi in the Outskirts of Nearby Galaxies
The Hi in disk galaxies frequently extends beyond the optical image and can trace the dark matter there. I briefly highlight the history of high spatial resolution Hi imaging, the contribution itExpand
The shape of dark matter haloes - IV. The structure of stellar discs in edge-on galaxies
We present optical and near-infrared archival observations of eight edge-on galaxies. These observations are used to model the stellar content of each galaxy using the FITSKIRT software package.Expand
SCALING LAWS FOR DARK MATTER HALOS IN LATE-TYPE AND DWARF SPHEROIDAL GALAXIES
Published mass models fitted to galaxy rotation curves are used to study the systematic properties of dark matter (DM) halos in late-type and dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies. Halo parameters areExpand
Constraints on the shapes of galaxy dark matter haloes from weak gravitational lensing
We study the shapes of galaxy dark matter haloes by measuring the anisotropy of the weak gravitational lensing signal around galaxies in the second Red-sequence Cluster Survey (RCS2). We determineExpand
The Dark Matter halo of the Milky Way, AD 2013
We derive the mass model of the Milky Way (MW), crucial for Dark Matter (DM) direct and indirect detection, using recent data and a cored dark matter (DM) halo profile, which is favoured by studiesExpand
The dark matter density at the Sun’s location
Aims. We derive the value of the dark matter density at the Sun’s location ( ) without globally mass-modeling the Galaxy. Methods. The proposed method relies on the local equation of centrifugalExpand

The Highly Flattened Dark Matter Halo of NGC 4244
In a previous paper (Olling 1995, \aj, 110, 591; astro-ph/9505002) a method was developed to determine the shapes of dark matter halos of spiral galaxies from an accurate determination of theExpand
THE FLATTENED DARK MATTER HALO OF M31 AS DEDUCED FROM THE OBSERVED H i SCALE HEIGHTS
In this paper we use the outer galactic H I scale height data as well as the observed rotation curve as constraints to determine the halo density distribution of the Andromeda galaxy (M31). We modelExpand
On the usage of Flaring Gas Layers to determine the Shape of Dark Matter Halos
I present a new method of deriving the shape of the dark matter (DM) halos of spiral galaxies. The method relies on the comparison of model predictions with high spectral and spatial resolution HIExpand
Dark matter in the Milky Way II. The HI gas distribution as a tracer of the gravitational potential
Context. Gas within a galaxy is forced to establish pressure balance against gravitational forces. The shape of an unperturbed gaseous disk can be used to constrain dark matter models. Aims. WeExpand
BASIC PARAMETERS OF DARK HALOS IN LATE-TYPE SPIRALS
Mass models for three Sd galaxies in the Sculptor Group (NGC 7793, NGC 247, and NGC 300) and for the Sm galaxy NGC 3109 are presented. While a one-component disk model succeeds in fitting theExpand
DDO 154 - A dark galaxy
The mass distribution of the gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxy DDO 154 is studied. The large extent of the H I component allows us to determine unambiguously the rotation curve out to 4R(HO) (7R subExpand
The shape of the dark halo in polar-ring galaxies
Photometric and kinematic observations of the polar-ring galaxies NGC 4650A and ESO 415-G26 are presented. The inner component of each system is an S0 galaxy, as was previously found in the case ofExpand
Figure Rotation of Cosmological Dark Matter Halos
We have analyzed galaxy- and group-sized dark matter halos formed in a high-resolution ΛCDM numerical N-body simulation in order to study the rotation of the triaxial figure, a property in principleExpand
The edge-on spiral gravitational lens B1600 + 434
We present new observations of the gravitational lens (GL) system B1600 + 434, strongly suggesting that the lens is an edge-on spiral galaxy. These observations are used to constrain the mass modelExpand
Outer edges of face-on spiral galaxies - Deep optical imaging of NGC 5923, UGC 9837 and NGC 5434
We present deep optical imaging of three face-on disk galaxies together with a detailed description of the reduction and calibration methods used, in order to measure the intrinsic shape of theirExpand
