Simulium dieguerense is recorded for only the second time since its description by Vajime and Dunbar (1975). The polytene chromosomes of larvae from the new sample and the type specimens were examined, and consequently the specific idiogram revised. The new specimens confirm the status of S. dieguerense as a species distinct from other members of the S. damnosum complex.
